A day at the farm

The resort’s own times, from the first lights to the last trip outside.

Your pet’s day at the farm

The resort’s own times. The routine is the same seven days a week.

  1. Early sun over the white-fenced play yards and the long barn roof, with the Glenmore hills behind

6:55 am The lights come on.

Staff arrive just before 7. Bathroom breaks first, then every room is cleaned.

  2. Staff walking dogs across the gravel lot to the red front office

    7:30 am Doors open.

Check-in and check-out until noon. Weekday daycare dogs arrive by 9:30.

  3. Inside the Big Dog Barn: white suites, a staff member on a stool and a comic-book mural of dogs on the wall

    7:45 am Breakfast.

The food you packed, between 7:45 and 8:15. An hour’s rest before and after every meal.

  4. A dozen dogs of different sizes standing together in a gravel play yard, looking at the camera

    9:00 am Playtime.

Play starts between 9 and 9:30. Staff build each group around the dogs in it. Every boarding dog gets at least 20 to 30 minutes of supervised yard play a day, often more, plus time in their own outdoor run. Small dogs play in their own grassy yard beside the Lap Dog Lodge. Big dogs have fenced yards and a 16 × 100 ft indoor arena for bad weather.

  5. Five dogs sharing a brown leather couch inside the Big Dog Barn, two of them asleep

12:00 pm The gate closes until 3.

Closed to visitors from noon to 3, every day. Drop off or pick up before noon or after 3.

  6. A smiling staff member hugging a golden retriever puppy under the Big Dog Barn sign

    3:00 pm Pickups.

Doors reopen at 3 until 6. Daycare pickup until 5:30, or 6 if you ask ahead.

  7. Two dogs running across a wide grassy field in low afternoon sun, with hills behind

5:00 pm Dinner, then a rest.

Dogs rest until about 6:30. Medications are given between 7 am and 7 pm.

  8. The red front office and the red gambrel barn under a pink and violet dusk sky

    6:30 pm Last trip outside.

Final bathroom breaks start around 6:30.

  9. The Big Dog Barn lit warm yellow at night, snow on the yards and hills

    7:00 pm Everyone’s in.

Every guest is in their room by 7. The Shardlow family lives just up a staircase from the barns, someone is always on site, and the buildings have security and alarms.
